MILK 5-20

Sunday May 20, 2012

We will be meeting at the LGBT Center, 4337 Manchester Avenue at 10 am.

March begins at 10:30 am. We will march down Manchester / Chouteau to City Hall downtown St. Louis.

We will have a brief rally at City Hall, Clark and Tucker at 11:30 am.

“People told him no openly gay man could win political office. Fortunately, he ignored them”, After Harvey Milk became the first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the history of the planet, thousands of astounded people wrote to him. “I thank God,” wrote a 68-year-old lesbian, “I have lived long enough to see my kind emerge from the shadows and join the human race.” Sputtered another writer: “Maybe, just maybe, some of the more hostile in the district may take some potshots at you — we hope!”

Harvey Milk’s life was put on the bigger map after Sean Penn’s 2008 Oscar winning film, MILK. However, Harvey Milk doesn’t just represent a gay politician elected to office. He represents all of us who come out of the closet to live a more peaceful life. This is why several LGBT leaders called for a public celebration for Harvey Milk Day around his birthday.

For the third year St Louis will march for Harvey on Sunday March 20, 2012 from 10 to 2pm.
